With the depth of talent at Alabama it is easy to see why enough players transferred and left early before their 5 years to play 4 was more than offset by new scholarships. The only issue with giving 105 scholarships in a 4 year period was getting around the 25 per year max by moving 5 via early entries to the year before the first of those 4 years (assuming they were under 25 the prior year) and moving some of the scholie players in the last year of the 4 year cycle into the next year. ND could do the same thing.
My problem with ND recruiting or player development is the top to bottom depth does not match up to the best 4-5 teams and ND has basically struck out at the most important position, QB. Maybe Jurko will be a success but not seeing the field as a true Freshman does not bode well when the elite of elites start as true Freshmen. And I still wish ND would drop the stupid requirement that a player must graduate and enroll in grad school to get a fifth year.
