Jack hasn’t been here for 30 years. Of course he wants to win all games in every sport. Foolish to even suggest otherwise. We all know it’s not easy to win championships anywhere, but especially at ND. The old days are gone. As long as we continue to strive for both academic and sports excellence our access to all great football players is diminished. You heard our coaches talk about recruiting. Our great tradition allows us to cast a wide net across the whole country but it’s not a deep net. They now recruit earlier in HS so they can guide kids into the right curriculum to qualify at ND. Then fall behind your class and you don’t play....period. Some kids don’t want to take that chance.
I look at our beautiful modernized stadium and the crossroads addition, the new facilities being built right now, the new basketball practice for both men and women......and I say ‘well done’. They are spending money to compete for student athletes and they are doing it for the fans. Those expenses require more income generated ideas.
I believe Jack is extremely smart and one of our best athletic directors ever. He is well respected. But to win a championship is extremely difficult. Look at the last 20 years......besides Ohio State how many championships has the Big Ten conference won? Maybe none on the field.
