Boykin was our best receiver, but despite that, him leaving could be a plus as it will allow us to get faster. There are enough guys with talent and more speed on the roster that one or two should, hopefully, step up. Also, if Claypool returns, he still has talent that hasn't been fully tapped and he seems a little less capable as jump ball guy, but more capable as a stretch player. I think getting a lot of guys time would be a good thing at a lot of positions. The big boys do a lot of rotation partly because they can, but it also helps develop backups and keeps your number one guys fresh. Jurkovec brings some abilities that Book doesn't possess, but then so did Wimbush. Giving him a real opportunity to complete for the job would be good, but just saying Book isn't enough and handing over the keys would be a mistake. If he wins it, so be it. Although Book doesn't have a rocket, his long ball misses were too long more often than not, so I don't think arm strength was the main issue. Despite starting most of the year, he's also young and could develop the deep ball with another year of experience and coaching. Also, we have a lot of young TE's with talent, if a red zone target is an issue without Boykin, it would make sense to use them in that role, which would also improve the threat/actuality of the running game. I like Finke and I seem to recall he was one of the faster players when timed. A quick reliable guy like him is very useful kind of like that Clemson kid in the slot. Having said that if Lenzy, Keys or someone else looks better, so be it.
If I'm Book or Jurkovec I'm doing everything I can to get as much time practicing with all the new receivers outside of formal spring ball practice to develop timing and chemistry.
