As a student realized that Rockne's death and the subsequent funeral mass and burial was a national event. However, the info on how the media covered it and how others outside SB paid their respects was always pretty general. It was pretty clear from reading about his life that nearly everyone who had access to radio or newspapers, etc at least knew he was the head FB coach at ND.
Nearly every year about this time encounter at least one article that discusses his life and some unique aspect of that or what actually happened. This is one of the most informative of what I've read and the only one that looked at media coverage in detail.
Like the author got to think somewhere there is film of the funeral/burial (aka Movietone) but if so have never seen or heard of same. Saw Knute Rockne All American (uncut) during orientation week. The pertinent scenes provide a good sense of what it was like. Aside: Saw it in 61 and was amazed how the area around the Dome had not changed much since 1940 so that aspect of the actual event was likely very realistic.
