I’m of the opinion that Wimbush couldn’t absorb the whole offense, and Kelly/Long were committed to getting him there or moving on from him. Looking back at early ‘17 games where he did well, it seemed like the passing game was simplified. A couple of reads, if it wasn’t there . . . improvise. With some planned runs sprinkled in. As time went by, it seemed like he was trying to stay in the pocket and go through more reads, and he just got more and more lost. If you watch and compare MSU ‘17 and Ball St. ‘18, it is like two different QBs . . . and two different offenses. Wimbush was cemented in the pocket in the latter game and couldn’t have looked less comfortable. I still think he can do pretty well in an offense that is tailored for him, accounting for his limitations instead of expecting him to grow out of them. I won’t be surprised if he has a good ‘19.
