Let's be honest. Football on tv primarily exists as an incredibly efficient platform for advertising. I mean, there are only 12 minutes of action in the entire 4 hours of air time. The rest is replays and expert repetitive jabber about nonsense like how Louisville coach has miraculously revived the low esteem of the losers he inherited from last season AND replays of the same goddam ads over and over and over again. I was praying for the Irish to go up big early so I could just turn it off. The cynic in me wonders if the networks give Notre Dame a bonus to keep it close?
