Kelly's spread offense resembles more of the pro-style K-gun offenses that was seen with the Buffalo Bills during the 90's (Jim Kelly as the QB), with the two back formations stripped out, and a greater emphasis put on spreading the field horizontally, instead of stretching the field vertically.
The current version uses the pass to set up the run, since that caters to the strengths of the personnel that we have available.
