How do I take seriously an article evaluating the ND offensive coordinator by someone who lists boy-wonder Sanford as the OC for 2015-2016 without knowing, or at least failing to point out, that Sanford's duties were as QB coach (you might say, co-QB-coach with Kelly) who had the title of OC. He did not run the offense or call plays those two seasons, Denbrock did. (This gives me another opportunity to invoke the prognosticating genius of Peter Sampson:
... he [Sanford] is offensive coordinator in name only under Brian Kelly and Mike Denbrock. Sanford did an excellent job with DeShone Kizer already, but taking a more macro approach to the offense, including play calling, would round out his resume. Sanford seems like the kind of coach who could jump from assistant to Power 5 head coach, which is a rarity these days. But with his personality and smarts, it’s a possibility. Also, the Boise State grad might just wait to see if that job opens if Bryan Harsin leaves for something bigger. — Pete Sampson, Irish Illustrated (link below)
Yes, Power 5 ready Sanford: WKU’s firing Mike Sanford just 2 seasons after he replaced Jeff Brohm!)
