I saw Avery play in a high school playoff game here in Texas. The opposing quarterback was the more highly touted Shawn Robinson who went to TCU and later transferred to Missouri and is sitting out a year. It was evident to me Avery would not be able to beat out outhers as a quarterback at Notre Dame and was afraid he would get lost in the depth chart but am pleased to see he is getting a chance to contribute. He has a decent arm and yes it seems logical he might be used in the role of throwing an option pass as a running back. I have felt the same thing about Jay Bramblett from the punting formation given he was a starter at quarterback in high school in addition to being an excellent punter. Given our history of not being overly creative with limited trick plays a pass from either would be a surprise if nothing else. Good thought.
