Have you been complaining like this all that time? Chances are it won't change much. The game and college landscape have changed. It's pretty tough to compete for top 10 rankings every year when you still maintain academic standards. Notice how Stanford also struggles like this? I've said for years that I wish ND would create a conference with Stanford, NU, Duke, Vandy, the Service Academies, GA Tech, Wake Forest and just embrace not being a football factory. I'd fall on my knees, especially if they'd hire an option coach, like the Navy HC. I'd look forward to ND football again versus what has happened to my interest over the past 20 years, as the writing has increasingly been on the wall, that this is larger than making the wrong hires.
You guys expect ND to be beating top 10 teams at least half the time, right? Upon what do you base that expectation? Memories of Ara? 1988-1993? Even that period is worlds ago in terms of how college football has changed. Particularly in this age, how many standout high school football players want to go to a school where they're told, upfront, that they will have to work hard in the classroom, go to all their classes, and take legitimate classes, at that? And all this at a time when they're told they're being exploited by their mass'rs and should be paid for their athletic performances.
