When we run them, our RBs tend to get in front of or lost amongst our one OL. It appears to make it difficult to near impossible for the QB to see where the RB is and/or to complete the pass. What should be an almost 100% completion rate is about 50% at ND. It happened today with Jones, where he got caught up in the lineman but ended up catching the pass.
When other teams run RB screens, the OL typically is a good 2 yards in front of the RB making it easy for the QB to see and connect with the RB and also making it easier for the RB to see and set up his blocks for him to run for bigger gains.
Is there any reason we run it this way, or is is just poor execution? Is this crowded mess why we generally don't have success with RB screens? Do we run it wrong? I ask because it seems we struggle with a very basic but effective play.
