There was a thread earlier asking if Tommy Rees could wind up making more money in his coaching career than anyone else in his ND class. This got me curious as to how much all time NFL great Joe Montana made in earning compared to Jeff Samardzija who has been an average middle of the rotation starter in MLB.
Montana made approximately $22.5 million in NFL salary over 16 seasons according to pro-football reference. Jeff Samardzija has made to date approximately $122 million in his career which is still ongoing. I wonder if any other ND athlete has topped Samardzija in career earnings as an athlete.
I think that it is less of a sure thing of making the Majors in baseball than in the other major sports. But man if you make it, there is a lot of money to be made. Jeff sure made the right decision.
