This was back in the 80s. He deliberately made the facilities dingy and spartan. If it rained, he had us outside doing pull-ups, push-ups, dips, rope climbing, and hauling sandbags 100 yards. He'd find a steepSan Francisco hill and had us sprint up that fuckin thing until we collapsed. He told us that as long as he was our S&C coach, we would never be physically beaten, it would only be a question of preparation. The only upgrade we had were semi warm showers. Looking back, it was an excellent life preparation..
