Been wanting to write a full article about this for a week or so but free time is tough to come by these days. Which is also why I've been a bit more active on the forum these days. In the words of Tommy Rees, "some you you might be pissed" about that.
Anyway, some of my thoughts on it.
- On paper it almost makes too much sense from a coaching standpoint
- On paper it makes very little sense from a recruiting standpoint. Harry had good classes early in his time at Notre Dame but it was no secret he hated recruiting and his last two classes were not great.
- If (now more like when) he is back, I hope there's a GA or analyst assigned to help with the OL recruiting b/c like Kelly, Harry is a great recruiter once he's in the living room. Its all the other stuff leading up to that that he doesn't like much
- With the talent Quinn collected, Harry could lead Notre Dame to two Joe Moore Awards in the next 3-4 years
- One underrated aspect of his first tenure is he did what he did (all the 1st rounders) w/o Matt Balis to help - he was here when Longo was still in charge. That's a pretty exciting thought.
- Coaching style-wise, it is going to be an interesting fit with Freeman. A lot of Harry's former players loved him, but more than a couple didn't at all. Freeman mentioned fit a lot when talking about assistants so it will be interesting to see play out
