Come to think of it, he was an absolute fool for believing CJ Leak's word, that he would stay committed to Notre Dame during the year before... As a promise to Leak, Davie stopped recruiting QB's that year, and promised not to recruit any more for 2000 in exchange for Leak's word he'd stay committed.
We lost out on some fine QB prospects that year who would have given ND a serious look.
To Davie's credit, he did get four highly rated prospects for the 2000 class, but the fact that Arnaz Battle was the only apparently game-ready QB on the roster at the start of the year was all but criminal on Davie's part.
