The idea that a coach who went to a NC game, won 10+ games in 6 out of his last 7 seasons and made 2 -- and could've very easily been 3 -- playoff appearances in a 4-year period was going to be easily replaced was absurd. He made ND work as a football program in this era. There were isssues (QB anyone), but he was good at recognizing and solving issues. When the question was asked on this board, Freeman or Fickell, I said neither, bring back Kelly. (In the absence of that, get Clawson.) I stand by that.
