Someone down below said it best - everything that could go wrong went wrong.
- TD called back because Tyree lined up wrong.
- Pyne fumble leads to 3 Stanford points.
- Replay incorrectly overturns fumble (I still-framed it and the ball was punched and moving before McKee's knee touched the ground).
- Estime fumbled when offense was finally humming and looked like it was gonna score.
Yes, the poor coaching - specifically by Rees - was detrimental. The going-for-the-TD decision was a 50/50, so I'm not even considering that. But the play call itself was just bad. And Rees kept calling plays that Stanford seemed to know was coming. I still think Gerad Parker needs to be an unofficial co-OC.
We had some fluke plays/situations beat us last night. But I also recognize if Rees knew what he was doing, they would have been irrelevant. As for blaming Freeman, it was perfectly logical to let Rees have control of the offense. The problem is Rees has greatly regressed since Kelly left. So while BK wasn't a great coach, at least he could game plan to a certain extent.
