You are right about them tightening up after Leahy who wanted his line coach Joe McArdell to be head coach; Brennan did have to coach in the new environment. I envy you being able to go to the home games. I have been to a few over the years and it was a great experience - I hope is still is! I was at the 1964 ND/SC game in the LA Coliseum and I will never forget it. Ara's first year, he took Devore's 2-7 team from 1963 with Huarte and Snow and was 9-0 and ranked #1. ND 17-0 at halftime; scored a TD late third quarter called back on a bogus holding call. Lost in the last two minutes 20-17 on a Fertig to Sherman TD pass. I was in shock for months afterward and swore off ever going back to an ND/SC game at the LA Coliseum. Ten years later, my brothers talked me into going back to a game there - the infamous 1974 game. ND had a 24-0 lead Q2 and ended up losing 55-24; an absolute debacle. From then on, I only went to ND/SC games in South Bend. SC and John McKay were Ara's #1 nemesis in the 60s and 70s and it was difficult being a ND an in SoCal. Great memories for 70+ years as an Irish fan. So, when you go to the game this week, please remember you are representing guys like me all around the country....Tom
