I am not an expert on Sam Hartman. Seen him only twice and he looked good to me but I’m going to withhold judgement on how good I think he is until I actually see him play more. But he does bring:
-45 FBS starts at a P5 program
-27 FBS wins (ND wins record is 30 by comparison)
-1600 FBS throws
-13,000 FBS passing yards
-110 FBS TD’s (ACC record)
-4 bowl game starts
-2 bowl game wins
-5 years experience
-only 1 injury 3 years ago in those 5 years
-1 year of eligibility
We will find out what he ends up being at ND, but Hartman would vastly improve a very young QB room and provide great experience those young guys need all the while not threatening any of them as he only has a year of eligibility (and not messing with Freeman/Rees’s plans going forward). He would provide the security of knowing that we have someone who can and has done the job at a pretty darn high level with proven durability for 5 years. He ensures we won’t be in the same situation next year that we were in this year. At very minimum, we get a bridge to the future of Buchner, Angeli, Minchey and Carr and he is probably much more than that. This is as close to exactly what we need right now as we could ever hope to find.
Regardless of whether we think he will be Gods gift to QB’ing at ND or just an above average FBS QB, everyone should be very happy with this get if we do in fact land him.
