I like the idea of winning every year vs percolating periodically

Me too, and to his point Carr shouldn't come if we take Hartman because of his experience

Carr already has more game experience at QB than Buchner.

I don't understand this reasoning that ND should stick with Buchner.

Of course they should stick with Buchner, he's a top recruit for QB,

I don't agree that he is injury prone. That's overblown.

How is his injury history overblown?

He had MULTIPLE injuries in HS?
-
NDavenue
- 11:49am 1/2/23
Don’t know about multiple but he had a torn ACL there and a separated shoulder here.

Everybody here complained we didn’t have a adequate backup in pyne

Agree.

I'm not dismissing it.

If they both can capable starters where is the downside? Seems all

Agree, Buchner has limited skills and likely a ceiling of 8-4 or 9-3. Not taking anybody to CFP.

I changed my mind on Buckner. He could lead ND to the playoffs

Even if he's right and Buchner is better, Buchner has less than a 50% chance of staying healthy

Hartman is a really good college QB and that's all we should care about. Not his NFL future.
-

That was Rees's decision last year and he got burned. I don't think they'll make the same mistake

Not the same situation. Your backup would no longer be a true freshman.
[NT]

It would be the exact same situation

Hartman is a projected 6th or 7th round pick in this year's draft.
-

IMO, he isn't coming unless he is certain to start. Obviously, there

I don't want to crap all over Buch because I like him.

I agree, but what I'm saying is that it appears to be up to

Sam needs to pull his head out of his ass if he's considering anywhere else.

There is a potential answer to Goolsby’s question about why Hartman isn’t going pro………
-
BaronVonZemo

In other words, we don't know how well/poor he will perform in a non-gimmick offense.
[NT]
-
NDavenue

Partly. But we know he has a good arm. Let them compete. He’d make a good back up too.
[NT]
-
BaronVonZemo
- 12:25pm 1/2/23
Sure he would. I just see that scenario as a huge risk of him becoming a cancer.
-
NDavenue
- 12:30pm 1/2/23
Bring Hartman in to compete, but no crowning of the job. Buchner has promise.
[NT]

The more I think about it, the more I think Hartman is a bad idea.

Hartman's RTG was 159.4 and Pyne's was 155.3 in 2022

I agree wth Goolsby.

Oh, I don’t doubt Hartman wants to better his position for the pro game.
-

I respectfully disagree

Freeman doesn't need to "win now."

I remember those games too. Buchner was under duress constantly
-
jimbasil
- 11:02am 1/2/23
He was. Not fair to judge him on just those games.
-
Frank L
- 12:51pm 1/2/23
I agree with all of this. TB had way more of the playbook open to him than Pyne.
-
NDavenue
- 9:18am 1/2/23
Also, Rees called a very good game for the most part.
-
jimbasil
- 1:22am 1/2/23
I'm tempted to give Buchner a pass on his first two possessions.
