And it doesn't involve Corn Pop or going to services at black churches or getting arrested in South Africa. The practice field at my HS back in the 1960s was dirt turned hard in the summer then mud in October turned hard again in November. It was sprinkled with a dash of broken glass and a bit of gravel for good measure. It also was used as the Freshman and JV game field. Varsity games were played at Gilroy Stadium which was built on a swamp. Fun fact, Canned Heat w/ opening act Catfish performed there as did The Jackson Five in their very early years. The early Astroturf years would be like a My Pillow mattress topper compared to what we had to play on. Now, everybody get off my lawn.
