You do not take 6 guaranteed points off the board, that opens the door for an additional 1-2 maybe points, to trade for 3 maybe points.
Even with a great kicker, things can go wrong on a kick: bad snap, bobbled snap, bad hold, kicker plant foot slips, DL penetrates, DL jumps and gets one finger on it, kicker shanks it, a bird flies by and bumps it, whatever...there are no Mulligans.
Taking the guaranteed 6 (plus 1-2 maybe) off the board for maybe 3, is possibly stupider than anything Davie ever said...this is really bad if our HC is thinking like this.
