He missed the 1987 and 1989 seasons, but ended up being one of the best collegiate linebackers of all time, even making it to the College Football Hall of Fame (and rightfully so).
Just as a reference, he had an unbelievable season in 1988 as a true junior, where he could cover any receiver, power tackle any running back, and shut down any tight end he was covering.
After that incredible season, he was involved in a car wreck, that broke his hip, and shredded his knee. Most of us would have found it too painful to walk after recovery, but this guy still played through it and had a very fine season for us in 1990 despite being gimped.
I know his combine stats weren't very impressive at all, but the fact that he had one of the highest football IQ's I've ever seen in history showed when he easily made the difference in the Michigan, Michigan State, and Miami games in 1990.
I can confidently say this, that if Stonebreaker hadn't gotten injured in that awful wreck, he would have kicked some serious butt on that 1989 team (and would have made the difference in the Miami game), and would have been an NFL stalwart for a decade.
Cheers to you, Mr. Stonebreaker. Even with all of the awful injuries, you still made the absolute best of the times, and will always be an inspiration.
