You and I know each other very well, you know I'm always going to call it like I see. I'm not always right, but I try to call it straight both ways.
Freeman came in with no experience so there was a known learning curve, but I don't care, we knew that when we hired him. Now it's time for training wheels to come off...he has to win!!!
So if the conversation is about how good of a HC Freeman is right now, it's still an unknown and he's already screwed the pooch a few times in his first couple seasons. I do like that he appears willing to accept blame and learn from his mistakes (unlike Kelly) and I LOVE the coordinators he's surrounded himself with. But he has to still show us if he's a good game day HC.
But, BUT!!! in terms of recruiting there is simply no comparison. Kelly had 2 top 10 classes in 12 years and tippy toed between 14-20 in class ranking way too often. Freeman is 'working on' 3 of 4 classes ranked in Top 10 (with the 4th being #11) in his first 4 classes and he hasn't even started winning big yet (if ever).
From the recruiting aspect the difference (even with the faults) is like night and day.
