As despicable as that unholy institution may be, I find it odd that a program of that stature would just release him into the cold without even giving him an academic scholarship, especially given the circumstances of the player being suicidal. They would certainly gain a lot of positive press by declaring that he'd be given an academic scholarship, and that they need all of the positive press they can get in this day and age. The stench of Jerry and Joe still remains strong to this date.
Now, the rest of what the doctor said? That's pretty much common practice everywhere, regarding getting certainly players medically disqualified to clear roster space for another scholarship player, pushing medical staff to clear injured players, etc.
As bad as it sounds, I actually agree with James Franklin here, that a suicidal player isn't going to be fit for the team, just as a player with a severely broken leg, crushed orbital eye socket, physical heart defects, etc., wouldn't be fit either.
His athletic scholarship spot would be better occupied by someone who could actually contribute, but as I stated above, the player should still be given an academic scholarship, even if it were just to buy some good vibes.
