You're correct that if even one less mis-step occured, we win the NIU game.
We simply played the absolute worst game we could have played, and didn't deserve to win.
Think of it like the Boston College game in 2002, where Murphy's Law reigned supremely.
In a nutshell, we win that game 19 out of 20 times, but they were there for the 20th time.
