I think Book & Reese were two guys who played better in games than at practice. Montana, too.
At least, when Montana was at ND (not to equate the 3 players). I believe Montana was constantly coming off the bench to save the starters from their lack of performance.
Other more heralded players were on those teams, but they weren't able to move the ball in games.
