Throwing ty's name out on this is like people using ty to push back on hiring experienced HCs...he's the exception not the norm.
And in terms of beating Davie being put on same level as beating Freeman...the difference between the state of football under Davie was completely different than it is now.
Davie was 21-16 after three seasons and we looked like a joke on the field. Freeman is already 22-8 early on in third full season and yeah he's had some inexplicable losses but he's also had some impressive wins and the product on the field doesn't look like a joke.
Obviously the only metric for considering Brohm wouldn't be that he beat us...when comparing the candidate he is vs what ty was, there is a very noticeable difference.
ty had 7 years HC experience (all at one stop) and had never served as an Offensive or Defensive Coordinator. Brohm currently has 11 years college HC experience, at three different stops AND has served as an Offensive Coordinator at three different stops along with one year as a HC in arena league. So Brohm's overall level of experience is much higher and more diverse than ty's was.
Now let's consider how they did as college HCs, with the understanding that almost every ND HC all time who was a HC at ND and other college stops, had a significantly higher win % at ND than their other combined stops (even ty was better at ND than his other stops with a 21-15 record for a .583 win%).
Brohm currently has 79 college wins with a .622 win % and would be 2-1 vs ND if he wins tomorrow with the loss coming when he was at Purdue vs the 11-1 2021 team.
ty came to ND with 44 college wins under his belt and a .543 win %...yes he went 3-2 vs Davie led ND, but all 3 wins were ND at Stanford.
In total ty has 11 seasons as a HC (outside of ND) with his time a UW added and in those 11 seasons he had 55 wins and a combined .426 win %.
...these would not be comparable hires.
