I doubt he's a fan at all. He reminds me of the "Republicans for Harris" or "Alpha Males for Harris" political groups, full of fecal matter.
If it were something like 70 points scored on our part, I could see it being excessive, since that's what Paterno, Bowden, Jimmy Johnson, etc., did to woo the voters in that era.
Or, if we would have done an onsides kick after one of the 4 TD's in the 2nd half, I could see that as pouring salt on a wound.
Scoring about 50 points against a team that almost knocked off TCU, and did beat a decent Syracuse team isn't running up the score. We scored about as much as we did in the 1st half (even with the fumble) as we did in the 2nd half. That, plus it was important that we get the 2nd string offense some passing plays, since Steve Angeli is literally one play away from having to step in and command the offense.
Seriously, what does that caller want us to do? Take three kneeldowns each possession and then punt away? Punt on 3rd down? Put in our scout teamers?
Besides, it's not ND's job to keep the score down. That's Stanford's job.
Bobby Bowden said something like this to Lou back when Lou was complaining about Bowden running up the score. Lou said something on the order of how it was Bobby's job to keep the score down, but Bobby said "No, that's YOUR job."
