He's definitely not chopped liver, and would have been a quality starter for us.
Mike Denbrock would have tailored the offense to reflect his throwing skills, and with our having a more serviceable receiving corps compared to last year, he would have done just fine. He can make all of the short and medium range throws with accuracy and timing, with reasonably good zip on the ball, and his long ball is actually decent as well.
I would have pictured him in a similar offense to what we ran in 2021 with Jack Coan, but Angeli being much more mobile, and the offensive line being better (despite our starting a lot of freshmen and sophomores).
I'll also be grateful to Angeli stepping in when Leonard was banged up and unable to take the field for a series or two. He performed, and kept us in the Penn State game.
This is not to take anything away from Riley Leonard, though. The man played his guts out for us in 2024, and got us to the finals. I'll always be grateful for his service as well.
