I don't agree. The team came on strong, and are a dominant starter or two away from being competitive in a league primarily filled with warmer weather teams. It's difficult to recruit talented pitchers who would prefer to pitch in 70 degree weather versus the spring in South Bend.
Also, with only 11.75 scholarships, it's difficult to find players who can walk on and pay $75,000 a year for the privilege. State universities with significantly lower tuition costs are able to attract good walk-ons to complement the scholarship players.
Lots of good young talent on the team. Looking forward to better outcome next season.
