Now, last year the main reason 2 of the 4 lost is because the Conference Championship put them in the top 4 (Boise and A.S.U. would NOT have had byes on straight rankings).
That said, teams with byes had at least a 24-day layoff between their last game played and the first playoff game. Coaches love the chance to rest their teams, but that's probably more than anyone would want.
