Frazer and Jones were already in the fold, and Mustain was always going to take his time with the decision. He wanted to commit to N.D., and Weis scrambled hard to get him on board. Frazer and family were not happy and essentially reminded him of whatever assurances he'd supposedly made to them early in the recruiting process (not sure if it was about not signing another dropback guy or only taking 2 Q.B.'s).
And everyone else wanted him, too - he was rated higher than Tebow. You might make the argument that his numbers were inflated by Arkansas' less-than-stellar high school competition, but he beat some nationally ranked teams that year. Maybe it was just Malzahn's system and expertise against high school coaching, but either way, he was pretty lousy as a college player.
