I think it was the gameplan. Slow the game down. Shorten it.

Play passive keep everything in front of you. The offense will try to keep them off the field with dinks and dunks. And hold the ball. Tressel ball in a nutshell. We'll steal it in the end as we can't trust our QB to throw downfield. Complimentary football.

Similar to what they did at times last year with Leonard. It never works against a good team. They ceded a half to Miami. Had ND actually played offense and threw downfield first half ND wins that game. And Miami would have scored less as they'd have the ball less.

          • I agree, but on the Carr point. I think they underutilized him to their detriment. - DiscoRick - 8:58pm 9/2/25

              • Fatal flaw is ND didnt play passive D last year, but we can debate that if you like. [NT] - DiscoRick - 1:31pm 9/1/25
        • True, but imo the fundamental issue was the softness in both lines. - NDQuebec - 11:46am 9/1/25
