Two factors here.
The first is where BC was bringing 8 or even 9 all day long.
The second is where Lady Luck has been pretty nasty towards us when it comes to freak injuries.
Losing one starter usually results in a degradation of your offensive line, and losing two makes this even more prevalent.
There are now three starters who are missing (Schrauth, Craig, Jagusah) on the offensive line. For most teams, this would have resulted in having porous pass protection, and weak run blocking (even without the opposition crowding the line).
The line was supposed to be one of our strongest assets at the beginning of the season.
I'm not bashing Absher, Otting, or Lambert, all of whom performed at least reasonably well (Otting is a big time stud). If anything, they've kept the line performance at a good, or even very good level.
It's simply that the line isn't quite at Joe Moore Award standards right now. It's still better than most top 25 teams' lines, though.
Yesterday's performance showed very good pass blocking all around, and CJ Carr did an excellent job of calling pass protection audibles. I don't think he got sacked even once.
We've actually been fortunate that Coach Rudolph is a top notch offensive line mentor, and that he developed a lot of quality players ready to step in.
