from the 2023 4-team playoff?
I did and said here that the committee was correctly following its mandate to select the 4 best teams and, in particular, when deciding between comparable teams ("at the margin", i.e., who was going to get the 4th spot) to take into consideration the unavailability of key players likely to affect a team's postseason performance. It was obvious that FSU wasn't the same team without its injured QB Jordan Travis and its presence in the playoffs would be a competitive joke. I was surprised at how many argued that it didn't matter, that FSU had earned the right to play in the playoffs as an undefeated P5 conference champion.
Now we are in the position of pointing out that the team that barely lost to Miami, in Miami, in August is not the current ND team, which we believe is on the verge of elite status, if not already there, and that it is absurd to treat the outcome of that game as determinative of which is the better team now, or even regard them as comparable teams given Miami's subsequent stubmling, losing to 2 unranked teams (by the way, the committee doesn't currently think Miami is comparable).
So, if you opposed the committee's exclusion of FSU in 2023 in light of its mandate to select the best teams for the playoffs, do you still do so?
