As a committee rep was trying to explain the reasoning, you just want to ask the guy if he's hearing himself talk. The plan is to safeguard Bama into the playoffs and in their minds, let BYU settle the ND/ Miami debate. Their work is finished. And the answer to the question if the 12 best teams are in the playoffs will be a resounding no if this scenario plays out.
