But I think Georgia Tech losing and bringing in the tiebreaker for the 2nd spot in the title game is where the committee lost control of their scheme, forcing more manipulation to protect against their original plan. Unfortunately, nothing major happened after that to avoid the doomsday scenario, and while we all thought Alabama getting waxed was going to save ND when coupled with the BYU loss, I am sure the committee knew then they were in really deep shit. Duke won, they pulled the pin on the grenade blowing their reputation up and here we are.
