Both ND and their alumni base are among the wealthiest - far more than Texas Tech. But they are not willing to use their hard earned money to buy football or basketball players. I can’t say I blame them. Even if I had $10 billion I would still not feel comfortable in contributing to NIL payments. It would just not seem ethical to me.
I bet if a billionaire ND alum (and there are a few) came to the Administration offering to give whatever it takes to get the best players in the Portal, that he would be told to give to the general university fund, and don’t contact recruits.
