The seediness of the sport was always there; it's now just a lot more so. It'll get increasingly ridiculous to have pro football be part of a college's "academic mission," but the money is too good for any meaningful change. I'd imagine it's quite akin to being a drug dealer.
I agree that while the games are just as enjoyable to watch now as they've ever been, it all feels too commercial, overblown and detached, and the overall appeal of the sport in general will likely wane over time.
