The focus is on women's soccer. No other countries have more girls playing soccer than US.
Also overall soccer participation actually has declined for about a decade. Soccer participation peaked in US around 2008-2010. It has been declining since then Soccer as a sport is indeed very strange in US.
Speaking of… our beautiful Irish women have had a great season.

I don't think that focus has anything to do with it.
The best womens teams in the world happen to come from places where woman have the most freedom. The USWNT benefits from the fact that girls have had access to sports for decades and we have a culture that encourages girls to play. it really is a great accomplishment and that accomplishment. We should all kneel to the flag the next time the USWNT takes the field to acknowledge that accomplishment.

I couldn’t believe they actually had it in Television the other day.
I watched about 10 minutes of it. Which is at least 9 more minutes than I will watch of the World Cup.
