Remember, kids, Asians are not persons of color. Despite historical discrimination and clear signs of not being Caucasian, the Disparate Impact Fairy somehow spared them at some point, so they are near the very bottom of the Oppression Totem Pole. In fact, they may not even be on the pole.

since 2019, when the concept was initiated, 8 other such events have been held in NYC and even London (see link). It seems to work for the Black community...again, no one is denied entrance so it's legal...the producers are playing by the rules...just not 'Your Rules'.

In reality it is fake news.

are totally open...can you cut them just a little slack?...after all, it's in the middle of "Black History Month"...
it is understandable it really is about separation and is discrimination by skin color. On the other side is, if a white troupe decided to have a whites only audience for a portion of its performance run it would create outrage and harsh condemnation from the black community.
If you’re going to preach equality you cannot on the other hand rule for a discriminating policy even if for one performance.
Personally, if a company of any type, acting troupe or other informed me there is to be a day set aside for black only or white only participation, they would lose my participation altogether even if it was said to be for a good cause. No cause is righteous when it calls for separation.
If I said, only 1in 9 police officers are racist, we'd all reasonably lose our minds. How about we endeavor for racism 0 out of 9 times?
one of nine performances taken away from them, when it is clearly all about a couple of black girls life experiences?...really?
For someone like yourself who is sympathetic with the Black community for all that has befallen them over time, I'm more than I bit surprised at your reaction.

I am not surprised that you support one group of people excluding another group of people based on skin color.
absolutely zero problem with that, and I'll bet that the Canadian public feels the same way since they'll have multiple opportunities to view it themselves...if you truly sympathized with the Black community's long and well documented plight, you'd understand as well...but of course you don't have that sympathy...ergo, your post.

Participants identify themselves based on the honor system. The National Arts Center’s statements were also quiet about what should be expected of mixed-race couples or families.
“NO ONE IS TURNED AWAY AT THE DOOR. There will be no checkpoints for Black Out Night ticket holders and no questions will be asked about the identity, race or gender of anyone,” the center wrote in a statement this week to journalist Jon Kay, a casual contributor to the National Post. (emphasis mine)

So much for your claim of racism by the play troupe/organizers.
You're such a sad, angry person...hope you get better.

You were justifying racism and that's what I responded to. You aren't going to get away with redirecting the conversation. YOU justified racism. The details in the article don't change that.
I'll continue to be angry when you justify racism.
I'll continue to be angry when you justify teachers keeping secrets from children about conversations they've had about children.
I'll continue to be angry when people on this board lie and gaslight.
Dookie Rage is justified rage and it's going to find you.
And with everything he stands for and as crass as he is I am forced to side with his base thoughts on the issue. The idiom, a broken clock is correct twice daily, comes into play for him even if he is correct only once every few months.
The National Theatre makes a bad choice on this even if they think their motives are pure.
It is an unnecessary statement by a theatre company even if Canadians in general have no issue with it.

-------------------
The connection between libertarianism and race dates back to 1964. After he had the Republican presidential nomination, Barry Goldwater (himself no racist) voted against the Civil Rights Act on libertarian grounds: In a speech co-authored by future Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, he said that “the freedom to associate means the same thing as the freedom not to associate.” In so doing, he transformed the Republican coalition. Eisenhower had gotten about 40 percent of the Black vote in 1956; Nixon in 1960, about a third; Goldwater, 6 percent. Goldwater was the first Republican ever to win in Georgia and the first since Reconstruction to carry Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina. Richard Nixon’s eagerness to woo the voters who had supported George Wallace in 1968 consolidated the racial polarization of American politics.
Racism seems to be part of libertarianism’s appeal to some Americans. It is easier to oppose government power if you don’t like what that power will be used for. Some of the libertarian leadership noticed that and has made racist appeals for decades. Some libertarians even dream of abandoning the state for clusters of self-governing enclaves, some of which could be all white. Ayn Rand called racism “the lowest, most crudely primitive form of collectivism.” But her condemnation of unproductive, parasitic “moochers” has more resonance when you think you know who those people are.
Libertarianism offers a peculiar vision of the heroic solitary individual who sustains himself without any external support. It says, “I don’t depend on anybody. I can take care of myself.” This fantasy of autarky can also involve the capacity to separate from people one doesn’t like. It denies any obligation to them that might be based either on shared membership in a community or on a history of wrongs that one has involuntarily benefited from. The fantasy is easy to swallow if it means that one gets to keep more of what one has. Here as elsewhere in libertarian thought, there is an active partnership between delusion and greed.
----------------------
It all seems to fit nicely...wouldn't you agree?
OH, and don't forget to re-read MAS' original link, which included the statement that NO ONE would be turned away, regardless of race or gender on "Black Out Night"...not quite the way things were in the 50's now, is it?
There's always hope that you'll see things in the right light...however, slim the odds.

Times change and not all people are the same. A racist libertarian from the 1960s in no way represents a libertarian in 2023.
The statement that "Racism seems to be part of libertarianism’s appeal to some Americans." is completely unfounded and even if it is true for a certain percentage, you can't make that general claim. We should note that anyone willing to make those kinds of generalizations are probably themselves suseptible to being racist.
and, I dare say Americans.
Only someone who refuses to take note of what's going on in 2023 should be called stupid.

Feels mistreated, disrespected. Eventually all groups will become punitive by playing us-versus-them and victim card.
people are protesting big time about immigrants coming from other countries. Brussels is a prime example.
you are upset with matters outside the US. What are your thoughts on Russia invading Ukraine?
Talked BS a lot on international affairs. Take 101 before take any advanced classes.

And basically nothing is being done to stop it. That's the irony.
for centuries, it is now time to stop with the self segregation and separation in our communities.
I find it difficult to be serious when we have to import another country’s issues with slavery and guilt and make them our own. I’m quite sure we Americans have our own issues on slavery history to contend with.
Several ancestors were shipped over here as indentured servants to the colonies, a result of being captured in various wars in Europe and several ancestors fought for the North in the civil war. Some of my heritage is Irish and Bohemian, both groups that have been historically discriminated against.
But even if I had slave owning ancestors, it would not be my sin to repent. This is Douglas Murray's point. We are attempting to punish people who look like the people that did bad things in the past. It is ridiculous.
