Link: Biden’s Last-Ditch Effort to Stop Evictions Frustrates Allies
"White House aides have long been aware that the moratorium would expire on July 31. But the administration was caught off guard by the recent surge in Covid-19 cases fueled by the delta variant, said a senior White House official. The pandemic’s turn for the worse -- combined with the slow dispersal of federal emergency rental assistance money in states and cities -- has lent sudden urgency to the plight of Americans struggling to stay in their homes."
If you've been awake to what's happening on the COVID front recently, you should know that the Delta variant has virtually exploded onto the scene...to the point where restrictions of last year are being contemplated once again...and if so, the impact on employment, incomes, etc. will be revisited. This situation has arisen "suddenly", with no thanks to the resistance to vaccinations by too many misguided "Public Servants".
IMO the Biden administration wanted very much to open things up and tried hard to encourage voluntary vaccinations...with the CDC's new guidelines this week, again due to the Delta variant, the game changed and they are responding...it's a case of policy adapting to medical guidance amidst this COVID pandemic.
The point was that some of his friends thought he was late to the game.
Love the excuse-making though. The Delta variant didn't show up on Thursday. (Mildly surprised you didn't try to use Simone Biles' mental health as an additional reason though.)
"...combined with the slow dispersal of federal emergency rental assistance money in states and cities -- has lent sudden urgency to the plight of Americans struggling to stay in their homes."
The entire administration had a plan...it did not include the Delta variant...when new data arrived just recently as to how bad an effect it is having, they had to shift gears quickly...stuff happens...
None of this needed to happen if our country's leaders acted as one to encourage vaccinations...sadly, there are tens of millions of Americans being adversely affected because of those who are pulling in the wrong direction...that is the real failure here.
btw, I'm not sure which states and cities aren't dispersing federal funds properly to those in need...but I'd sure like to know...regardless of their leaders' party.
And the reason it was posted...
":Some Democratic lawmakers and housing advocates openly expressed exasperation that the president hasn’t done more, sooner.
'What they have done, and what this is, is reckless and irresponsible,” Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat and progressive leader, said in an interview. “And so now we’re scrambling -- but it could have been avoided with better communication and, frankly, more forthright leadership from the White House' '
The Delta variant was identified in December and was in the U.S. in March.
the admin had...they both agreed on the need for assistance, but the admin IMO was counting on 70% vaccination by July 4th in order to enable a return to 'normal' on that issue this summer...had that been achieved, like in Vermont (68.45%)...where bars, restaurants and night clubs are open and positivity rates are near 1%, even with the Delta variant...we could have succeeded and AOC wouldn't have to complain...sadly, only in the last two weeks has solid data arrived that showed how much the Delta variant had taken hold and how impossible the goal of 70% vaccination was.
Now you can get all lathered up about this 'brinksmanship' on the part of the Biden administration and link arms with AOC, but the real lesson to be learned is the deleterious effect that Trump loyalists are having on the health and economy of the U.S. by failing to loudly call for vaccinations.
Note: The 'Anti-Vaxers' have always been there and will never go away, but they have never stopped a needed vaccine...only public officials can do that.

As one has zero to do with the other I assume you’re trying to make a joke, a joke that perished on inception.

…….no action until late in the game, and then a tepid effort so that they can point to their support later.
