The United States has a moral obligation to do whatever it takes to provide those Afghans who helped us with a safe home, even if it means they live here in America.
Period.

on a personal note...a few years ago my Rotator Cuff surgeon was of Vietnamese origin (outstanding work), and our long time auto mechanics are a Vietnamese family...they are perhaps the most sought after in our part of town...never even think to question their diagnoses, repair recommendations...or cost...total confidence and trust in them.
No reason the Afghanis wouldn't fit in just as well...need to do whatever it takes to get them out...even if this drags on, like the Vietnamese withdrawal did.

Not sure how many such people are trapped in outlying parts of the country. Maybe lots, maybe not many. It's not clear.
But make no mistake - Stephen Miller and the Trumpies would accept exactly none of them. If this had happened on Trump's watch, they would all be abandoned.
That is not speculation. That is what the guy has said.

Flights are not being molested.
Obviously the Taliban checkpoints are a problem. A big problem. But so far, there has not been widespread violence.
That could change, of course.
Angry jihadis are unpredictable jihadis.
Or maybe they'll gun them down and/or cut off their hands...

Two issues:
As of a couple days ago, the U.S. government had no coherent list of who had aided us. Among many things, I found that astounding.
Second, this morning I was listening to two American citizens (one with children) who are trapped in Afghanistan and can not get into the airport. Afraid to show passport with Taliban right on them if they won't be granted entry. Take care of this first.
The handling of this is pathetic and embarrassing.
Some estimates suggest 10,000 translators and up to 80,000 including family members.
Not sure how they really know.
Can't believe they didn't have some sort of classified list.

Americans who suited up know which Afghans provided material assistance to US efforts over the past 20 years. That list should long ago have been defined and vetted, and the Afghans should have been given a choice in writing whether or not they want refugee status.
For those who pass muster, we owe them and their immediate families safe passage to the United States. America cannot fuck over those who remain in mortal danger because of their assistance to the United States.

Lots of people could attempt to ride in on the translators' coattails.
US citizens - easy
Translators - easy
Translators family - I think this is easy, but open to the discussion
then comes the debate on how to handle others at risk....
And the status of that compilation should have been discussed early on between Trump and Biden during the transition.
But, we know that Trump was preoccupied with sedition.

If we fuck these guys over we are cowards with zero moral compass.
bad enough to be incompetent, this is getting morally reprehensible
Biden’s admin /Bliken, making a mess out of the evacuation and asylum of those who helped US and even more outrage when American soil is where they land.
Easy for their outrage to find home.
