..or else ya' may increase the risk for bone cancer. (my wife's a Vet)
To your point, they're known for growing very quickly which is why most Vets suggest that you don't give them supplements, due to their tendency to impede their normal, rapid development. A low protein diet is also recommended ('course, I'm probably telling you stuff that you are keenly aware of).
Do you concur?
We feed them a special low protein food we get from the Vet. Expensive but necessary.
Most of ours have passed either from b0ne cancer or cardiomyopathy which is also a large breed problem.
They are just the best friends in the world though.

But the Auburn/Alabama pull is intense down here on the Bama coast...I have to follow both for business
Nephew is a midshipman, in his junior year. Brother lives on the Eastern Shore.
So, we get together for one game per season.
But, it's a fun day. A little tailgating, and always fun to watch the Brigade "march on" from campus through town, to the stadium. The streets are lined with people who toss the mids snacks and treats and water bottles. Really great bunch of young Americans who go to school there.
A windy, and mostly sunny fall day.
And of course, enjoyed spending time with nephew after game, grabbing some crab cakes and lamb stew at the Galway Bay Pub on Maryland Street.
