I've been saying this for awhile:

Psychologically, we seem compelled to hate others who are different... be they old white guys or young African American women. Marx has nothing to do with this.

The sad fact is, in this country, when children get blown away at kindergarten 20 at a time, you can count on there being a prominent public figure to step forward and chalk it up as the price we pay for freedom.
And, then, this gal from the Federalist wants to get her panties in a bunch just because some old Democrat takes a few potshots at a bunch of politicians?
These kids today! They must think recorded history began in 1990. Someone needs to tell Gracy Olmstead that we have a long record of political violence in the US, unmatched, perhaps, by any western democracy. Between 1865 and 1980, heads-of-state Lincoln, Garfield, and Kennedy all were assassinated, and FDR was shot at (one of the stray shots killed the Chicago mayor), Ford was shot at (twice, in two weeks), and there was Ronald Reagan, of course.
George Wallace was shot (and crippled for life) during the 1972 campaign, and RFK was killed while campaigning in 1968. Non-elected, but prominent, political figures like MLK, Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers were killed more or less regularly during the same time frame. No doubt, I am forgetting others.
If she wants to make the case that our contemporary politics is particularly uncivil by our past standards, Gracy Olmstead has a very high bar to clear, and she does not even begin to do it here.
Violence is perpetrated on a virtual daily basis by the left and the moderate left will not call it out. It's worse than political religionists. There is actual violence.
I'm sorry MAS, I'm just mocking Frank a bit. Nice article.
