Conor put up an article which stated Omicron is evading vaccines and that a vaccine specifically targeting Omicron will likely be "needed."
So let's think about that. By the time a variant-specific vaccine is developed, the peak will already have come and gone.
By May of this year, 83% of people in this country had Covid antibodies. This percentage is likely to be 90% by now.
We just cannot keep boostering forever, and nobesides, most people now have very good protection from this. Continuing to wear (useless) masks and boostering is ridiculous. Thankfully, as the article in The Atlantic pointed out, most people outside Northeast and California big cities, the media and the Great Fauchino, have largely moved on and have returned to normal.
even though Omicron is ripping through Europe and not Africa.
Joe is not a racist because Chris says so.
Joe is protecting us from those Africans.
Let's take our masks off. Joe is protecting us.

'voluntarily' gets a Flu Shot annually...sorry if I mis-led you...honestly didn't mean to.
A little 'picky' today...no?
was getting it. Only looking for clarification. Carry on.
And this is exactly what MHarman curiously pointed out in his question. And since we’re at it, MHarman has pointed out in the past, C19 is just a flu.

down to "Endemic" status...just like the Seasonal Flu, where boosters are highly recommended, but mandates for them won't be required (so long as it stays at that stage)...feel better?
I was vaccinated with Moderna, last shot June 5th. As a military member, I am sure that if boosters really become mandatory, I will be getting told to get one, and I will because I signed up for that, it's part of the job.
If the shots do nothing for keeping the disease from spreading, then it is just a pre-treatment, which according to you keeps people out of ICU, but not free of the disease or even out of the hospital. Therefore, it is not a cure, and as it does not keep you or anyone else from giving it to someone else the only logical thing to do is to let people decide. You are not stopping the virus. This shot does nothing to "beat" the virus. Does it save lives? According to you, there is a good possibility, but the medical people that I have in my family (other people know people too, not just you Ty) report to me that the doctor and nursing staffs seem to be about 50/50 on if people should really get the shot. I know this is shocking to someone who is as in tune with the medical field as you, but I can only report what I hear from my people who are "in the know" as you would say. I would tell people to talk to their doctor about if they should or should not get the shot.
On a tangent, I was wondering if your consistent tirades about how the numbers for Michigan look are simply because you know BVZ is from Michigan so it's now important to you to show him that his state sucks, or is it the only real example you can come up with? You should also really look for a state that doesn't show how inept the party you obviously support is at managing the crisis in the state they run. I seem to recall you going off on Florida and Georgia for our disastrous spikes in the disease and all the doom and gloom. I checked recently and while we still have Covid, the spike is well over, but I expect another after the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, just like will always happen.
and signing that blank check on your life. (they're all Navy, btw...not sure which branch you're serving in).
The vaccines started out very well on the original version of COVID-19 at 95% effectivity (Moderna), but then the virus mutated, as we've all seen, and hindered it's ability to protect against infection...but it didn't drop to zero...not sure what the level of protection is right now, but they do help in that regard. What they still do very well...as borne out by real world results...is keep folks out of ICUs (~98% are unvaccinated) and morgues...and Hospitals...note: a Sept, 2021 report said that unvaccinated people were 5 times more likely to get infected with COVID and 10 times more likely to be hospitalized, than those who were vaccinated...so, they really do work.
If the only outcomes of COVID infections were runny noses, we wouldn't be investing all this effort on vaccines...but the stakes are clearly much higher, so we do the very best we can.
As for medical personnel getting vaccinated, many, if not most systems are requiring vaccination and the cooperation rate is typically in the high-90% range...not sure where the folks are that you know, or what their employment requirements are.
Regarding Michigan...their "COVID Crisis" was/is a front-page news item that caught my eye, and yes, given that we all know where Baron lives, I couldn't help but notice the coincidence...but my mention of Michigan's troubles with COVID had zero to do with BVZ...just a major state whose health care system is being overwhelmed with unvaccinated cases of COVID-19...I would say the same if it were Vermont, Iowa, or even California, because the underlying problem is "Unvaccinated" Americans...they're needlessly getting seriously ill and too often dying while squeezing out all others who did get vaccinated, yet have urgent medical needs.
I haven't asked, but am hoping, that Baron has volunteered to help fill the need for doctors to treat COVID patients there in his home state...if you're listening, Baron, let us know.
Finally, cases are rising everywhere, and a significant surge is possible...as for Florida, DeSantis now has an investigation pending by the Univ. of Florida for him ordering the destruction of COVID data...we already know he's cooking the books by not counting "Snowbird" cases, hospitalizations and deaths, so I wouldn't put it past him...back in August, Georgia was in very bad shape with hospitals close to capacity...they've gotten much better...btw, I'm on no way "Cheering" for bad outcomes...I'm just highlighting them when they occur so that people don't think all's well and decide to "Move On" before anything's been solved.
j/k, I've met some good Navy folks, they're usually just a little odd, I think it's all the time at sea.
I'm not saying the vaccine does nothing. I acknowledge that it has benefits, and regardless, I likely would have been vaccinated anyway, because I believe in vaccines and originally I was trying to make sure my nephew that has congenital heart disease and is a transplant recipient would not get it from me.
Here's my issue with this pandemic crisis that we are in. I don't see a crisis in the numbers. The Covid death rate in Georgia is under 2% right now. You can argue that the vaccinations have helped bring that down from before when it was closer to 4% and I would agree with that. What I also take into account is the WHO representative who said that because of all the asymptomatic cases the real case number could be as much as ten times the amount that we see. That could very well slide the decimal to the left and drop that death rate to .2% and even if not that much, you have to take that into account when you talk about the numbers.
I have included a link for the age related statistics for Covid reported by the Georgia Department of Public Health. If you review it, you can see there is not currently any surge going on here, and that the deaths for younger generations is practically non existent given the number of cases. Mandating this age group to be vaccinated makes no sense, as they are more likely to die from a bolt of lightning or car accident than Covid, and it won't actually stop them from spreading the virus. It would at best make them even more likely to be asymptomatic, spreading it around without any care in the world.
Gotta run for a bit, but will check back later for your input.

attention...note that every 0.1% of the U.S. population is 330,000 people...that's a big deal...and even more so when COVID cases, because they are from an airborne infectious disease, start to crowd out all other serious illness treatments at hospitals...we need to fight this 'opponent' hard and fast...and our best weapon is vaccination.
We can beat COVID back to "Endemic" status which will allow us to get rid of restrictions and return to an essentially normal working environment, and you know by now what the the 'tactics' are.
Back to the Navy...my nephew has a buddy who's a pilot in the squadron that put the attached cruise video together...go to the 21:00 min mark and imagine the "pucker factor" involved in that kind of flying...might be worth at least a nod of the head for what they do.

And if your ilk remains in charge, I would say it's far more likely that boosters will be mandated for CoVid AND influenza than vice versa.
possibility was mentioned on a news broadcast by a medical expert), an "Endemic" is WAY BETTER...it would put us in the Seasonal Flu regime, which would negate the need for all the restrictions we are currently enduring...boosters would be voluntary, but strongly encouraged...so long as we didn't experience sudden "Breakouts" or "Epidemics" (localized rampant infections...a'la Ebola in Africa).
A mutating virus that becomes endemic is in no way a good thing. Endemic viruses lead to epidemics and pandemics. For example, we still have influenza epidemics from time to time.
But this is the natural order of these types of RNA respiratory viruses, as I've said from the beginning. Flatten the curve made sense, but the idea we would extinguish the virus has always been a fairy tale level of optimism. Having vaccines and therapeutics is great, and most people should choose them. But it's highly doubtful that the division caused by the political aspects injected will subside as fast as the virus will in between seasons. And this polarization and irrational fear of either the virus or the vaccine will continue as the new pandemic. The pandemic of hyper-political division, intolerance for opposing views and ultimately erosion of individual liberty. Hope I'm wrong of course.
starting with his total denial of its danger...then "Slow Walking"...then refusal to promote even the simplest of mitigation measures (masking and social distancing) while waiting for the vaccines to arrive...and finally by failing to use his bullhorn to urge everyone to get vaccinated...meanwhile, he himself benefitted from the very best the medical profession had to offer, including experimental drugs to save his life after he contracted the disease...and vaccination after that...what a piece of work.
Trump has fanned the flames of vaccine and masking denials by keeping his mouth shut (for a change) and failing to LEAD people in the proper direction...we would be in a MUCH BETTER place had he turned his sales prowess toward defeating COVID-19. Hopefully, the GOP will get back on track and we can return to a "checks and balances" world that offers legitimate alternatives to Democrat suggested programs, yet with the shared goal of making everyone better off...not just on the medical front.
wrt totally eliminating COVID-19...it was always a hope IF we could have done all the right things (see above), but sadly we didn't have the necessary leadership and now our best outcome is "Endemic Status"...not terrible, but doable. It's a shame that we're stuck with this situation, and you are right about having a replicating virus hanging around...potentially worse variants could be in the offing...keep you fingers crossed, but by the same token, some folks are saying very positive things regarding the potential of mRNA and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technologies to possibly eradicate coronaviruses...encourage your kids and grandkids to go into biotech ;-).

the country....both physically and politically?...If you'd like to defend him on those points (and more), feel free to offer your thoughts...I'll be glad to debate them with you.
The fact that you think this tactic, which you predictably deploy any time you're backed into a corner, would work on me shows a lack of respect. Even in disagreement, we gentlemen should be able to have respect, right?

I guess someone could check the vaccination percentages for that time, I doubt they were all that much different, and certainly not 100% like Tyrone seems to want with the Covid shot.
