Is this hysteria all about Trump or just modern day opposition party theatrics?
Supreme Court nominations have become poisonously partisan. Soon we will only be able to get justices in those years when the president and senate are held by the same party. Which is going to be a problem.

If true that's pretty sad.
That issue has damaged American politics more than any other since slavery.
What worse is that they always represent a tiny minority of the voters. I mean, what % of the public really cares about gun control or abortion rights?
One-third. They stand behind him for one reason.
And there are just as many abortion monomaniacs on the left, believe me. I wish the issue would go away.
They tell Trump to run for prez as an R, he has to be pro life. Without missing a beat Trump says “I’m pro life, next”
I've watched it several times, I think you'd enjoy it.

If not, we are truly in a sad state.

I am actually not a huge fan of Kavanaugh, but the way the left is treating him you would think the guy is Roy Moore.
And do not even get me started with this "accusation" which looks more and more sinister by the day.

But really, Kavanaugh isn't a good choice as a judge or a person.
As a judge he is a flask of sour milk.

Nonetheless, our Supreme Court judges are still probably the most serious thinkers we have forming public policy.
That's the problem.
3rd option: this moves the court clearly in the conservative or what I like to call the "Constitutional wing". From the left's perspective it threatens every fundamental change they have worked for decades to implement through the courts from Roe to ACA. They are justifiably alarmed, IMO. As Joe Biden would say "this is a big fucking deal!" If nothing else, this SHOULD make people realize that things like Roe shouldn't be court decisions but constitutional amendments. Short of that, it should be up to the states or the people (where did I hear that before?). And if that were so, the conversation about any nominated justice would be solely about their suitability to interpret and dedication to upholding the Constitution.

His legal writing is superb and he's no flame thrower. He is conservative, but then that is reputedly the position of the Republican party.

Mr Chief Justice Roberts, whom I disagree with often, but completely respect. No nasty remarks about Gorsuch despite having preferred Garland.
Check post history if you like.
Kavanaugh is a liar, or half-truth teller at best. He may or may not have an unaddressed gambling problem.
And there are serious questions about his character now in the public record.
their two decades long support of Bill.

I suppose he might be worse. I've posted before that I liked him the least of the 3 final candidates Trump had. But, I don't see any difference between him and Roberts at all. Sure, there are a bunch of ridiculous attacks on Kavanaugh that were never made on Roberts or Gorsuch, but that is more a reflection of the level of intensity on the left to stop a change in the activist Court that the Left created than it is a reflection of Kavanaugh's actual character. The only way one can believe the stuff coming out is if one is a pure partisan. For the non-partisans, it is recognized as nonsense that is safe to ignore.
For example, a 2012 Dr visit claiming to be “unraveled” by a supposed teen age groping incident that is refuted by the only other person present. The Left believe those accused of this are guilty until proven innocent, even when the charges are ludicrous. It wouldnt matter who was nominated at this point, the wacky Left has a charge waiting for all of them.

I'd prefer to Brett Kavanaugh.
Judges that don't lie or tell half-truths under oath in the style of Bill Clinton.
Judges who do not have questions about their recent gambling history, or binge drinking.
And certainly, Judges who are not under suspicion of attempted rape.
Good character counts. The Chief Justice, to use one example, has that in abundance.
Brett Kavanaugh has not demonstrated that he does.
