Hurricane Michael hit so fast and so hard I imagine lots of people didn't have time to get out of harm's way. This is going to be really bad.
Played in and helped run the Tallahassee Open, then drove down the coast through Wakulla County, too U.S. 98 to St. George Island. My wife and I used to take the trip all the time to Apalachicola and Mexico Beach when we lived in Tally. My heart breaks for that area. One of the most scenic drives in the entire USA.
If you want to build a house near the beach, you need to pay the market rate for flood/wind insurance or roll the bones (no help from FEMA)...your choice. As it is, we all pay billions every fucking time, cleverly hidden from us by Federal accounting.

You do know there are limits on how much a subsidized policy will pay?
In yer case, maybe not though.
That's like telling upper-middle class families that they can pay for all the extra services for their special needs kids instead of the taxpayers footing the bill.
It will never happen.
That doesn't mean it shouldn't happen. There are a metric shit ton of things on that list, of course.
