Brilliant effort by Peter Jackson and crew in New Zealand to transform silent black ‘n white film reels into color film with audio.
Cannot imagine anything worse than trench warfare. Brutal existence for a soldier.
For all of us who grew up watching WW II movies, this film provides a terrific glimpse of WW I for which I had never before experienced. Gallipoli remains one of the very best war movies. But, watching real footage in tonight’s film was riveting.
....having studied the chemistry side of things, I can tell you that the ongoing arms race behind the scenes to develop the next generations of gases for warfare was one of the most chilling and diabolical stories in all of science history. What those men faced in the trenches was unbelievable and worthy of every effort to remember what happened and of their sacrifice.
And that is saying something, because they're all dumb. But that one was fought for no reason, and stupidly.
Can’t wait to see it.
Jackson does a great job on these docs.

Some discussion on Amazon that it may work on a blu ray machine.
Not being shown anywhere locally in theatres. Too bad. Would be nice on the big screen.
